POTUS, a game that immerses you in the hectic world of American political life. This is more than holding office; you must maintain it amongst shenanigans and strife. The constant barrage of scandals, twists, and political conflicts, both domestic and international, will be an ever present challenge.
You can count on your allies, such as your Vice President or your supporters and other lobbies, to finance your campaigns and bring you their votes. But beware, the arrangements you will negotiate will always be short term. They are eyeing your seat!
To solve problems and increase your popularity, you will launch ambitious reforms, command the Marines or the CIA, and maybe even send men to the Moon!
With POTUS, relive up to 75 years of American history, from the glorious days of Franklin Delano Roosevelt till the 2020 Elections and become the best President America has ever known.
POTUS is a game for 4-6 players by David Delbarre, a professor at Sciences Po (France's top political science school) in love with the United States.
The game box contains the following items:
- A 18”x24” gameboard
- 450 playing cards
- 42 wooden pawns (20 blue, 20 red and 2 yellow)
- A countersheet of 48 game markers
- Six game tokens of different colors
- Bills 1(x30), 5 (x30) and 10 (x30) million dollars.
- One Rulebook
One evening to play one of the game's three periods (each of 6-7 turns, a turn corresponding to the 4-years presidential term).
The game is a simulation of the political life in the United States from 1944 to the present day and the struggle for power between the Democrats, party of the donkey (blue color) and Republicans, party of the elephant (red color). The players each represent a lobby group and the politicians it controls (hereafter called "politicians" for simplicity sake).
To win, players must earn "Powerpoints" (PP), primarily by placing their politicians in the prestigious positions of President or Vice President of the United States.
